Box-office khiladi 786 is good to ordinary talaash stutters

The opening of Ashish R. Mohan Akshay,Asin starrer khiladi 786 was expected to be bumper to good barring high end multiplexes and South. The film, when it actually released, embarked on a good to bumper start but only at the single screens of UP, Rajasthan, Bihar and parts of Gujarat. The multiplexes were much lower 30-55 percent the higher collections coming from non-metro plexes.Given that the word-of-mouth for the film is mixed and some of the discerning critics are expectedly not so kind, the metro and 'A' center multiplexes may not improve much. Having said that, khiladi 786 did show a perceptible growth in the latter shows and is likely to net 10-11 crore on its opening day, with the weekend expected to be in the range of 30-35 crore. Meanwhile last Friday Reema Kagti directed Aamir, Rani, Kareena and Nawazuddin starrer, talaash - THE ANSWER LIES WITHIN, managed a good weekend of 44-45 crore but flattered to deceive as thereafter the weekdays saw the collections falling alarmingly Tuesday onwards. During the first week talaash has netted in the range of 64-65 crore to be validated though the battle is still not over for the film, and to be declared a clean hit and for getting to the now customary 100 crore mark, talaash has to show strong legs in the second weekend as well as the week.

Bollywood box-office report of the week

The much awaited clash between Ajay Devgn's SON OF SARDAAR and Shah Rukh Khan's JAB TAK HAI JAAN went the expected and predicted way! Both the films embarked on a good start with SON OF SARDAAR leading in Bihar, Rajasthan, CP Berar and East Punjab and JAB TAK HAI JAAN dominating Mumbai circuit, Delhi-UP, Mysore, West Bengal, Hyderabad-Nizam and TNK. After three days, SON OF SARDAAR has netted 35-36 crore and JAB TAK HAI JAAN 47-48 crore from India. What must be kept in mind is the fact SOS has a total cost of 80-85 crore (all inclusive) and JTHJ 60 crore (all inclusive, sans SRK's fee), and so both the films have to last more than the extended 6-day weekend, to be declared a hit. In the overseas JAB TAK HAI JAAN is the clear winner, having grossed $ 3.50m in just three days (having released in some markets on the third day!), and is expected to reset many old records.
