Telangana festival is Chiru's first priority

Megastar K Chiranjeevi, who was inducted into the Central cabinet last night after a long wait, might be a strong opponent of Telangana state formation, but he has displayed his magnanimity towards the region soon after assuming office on Thursday.

The first file Chiranjeevi signed immediately after taking charge as the Union Minister for Tourism in New Delhi was sanctioning of Rs 6 crore to Kakatiya Festival to be celebrated in Warangal from November 24 to 30. The festival, being held after a long gap of 15 years, is an important event in the Telangana region as it reflects the local culture and history.

Though Telangana cultural activists have been demanding that the government celebrate the festival in a big way on the likes of Kadapa festival held a couple of years ago, the government has been ignoring the demand on the pretext that there were no funds. The state cultural department finally sent the proposal to the centre for assistance and Chiranjeevi approved the proposal on priority basis.

“I will make the best efforts to bring international recognition to our national heritage and tourist places. I will focus on attracting more foreign tourists to the country,” he said on assuming the office.
